On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Liz Manfredi raced the Rescue Me 5K in Lincoln, New Hampshire!
It has been more than five years since Liz last raced. During that time, she has faced (and conquered!) a wide variety of personal challenges. We started working together just over a year ago in October 2023; her original intention was to return to racing in October 2024.
Unfortunately for Liz, she continued to face challenges and setbacks after she started coaching with me. However, we adapted and evolved based on what was actually going on in Liz’s life, and this ability to adapt and evolve is exactly what makes coaching such a valuable service. As a result, we were able to make measurable, consistent, and meaningful gains in her fitness over the course of this year. All this meant that she was more than ready to take on the Rescue Me 5K on Saturday.
Race day conditions were sunny, cold (30ºF temperature with a windchill of 20ºF), and windy (with 25-35 mph sustained winds). Liz was wise and started off conservatively in terms of her effort and pacing. Though it’s been many years since she has raced, Liz is an experienced athlete, across a variety of sports. She leveraged this experience and throughout the race, she listened to her body and decided what to do based on what it was telling her. All of this enabled her to achieve the elusive negative split.
Liz crossed the finish line feeling “super happy” with both her performance and her official race time. Most importantly, she reported that she had “an absolute blast” at the race. Quite frankly, there isn’t anything better than hearing that.
Congratulations, Liz!
