Kathy Cano and Susan Doberneck ran the Escape from Prison Hill 11K in Carson City, Nevada!
Escape from Prison Hill is a trail race with a gnarly amount of elevation gain; there is over 1,300 feet of climbing in the entire race, with 750 feet of climbing in the first 1.5 miles alone!
Susan has been training a lot on the trails and has been working on managing her efforts consistently despite the terrain. During this race, she managed her efforts really well and also was able to execute a solid fueling and hydration plan, which is something she’s been working on dialing in for a couple of seasons now. This was Kathy’s first time doing this race, and she loved the adventure of it!
Susan and Kathy are very good friends, so doing this race together and being there to support each other meant a lot to them. This was a fun way to wrap up the series of trail races that they’ve done over the last several months.
Well done, Kathy and Susan!
On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Daria Bakina and Brian Stoos ran the Skunk Cabbage Classic 10K in Ithaca, New York!
The Skunk Cabbage Classic is a well-loved race in Ithaca that starts and ends on Cornell University’s campus. Both Daria and Brian wanted to do this race as a fun way to kick off their 2025 season.
Daria didn’t have any expectations at all heading into this race. She leveraged her experience to run a strong race with a negative split. Her average pace was 40 seconds faster per mile in the second half than it was in the first half of the race! Most importantly, Daria finished feeling good, which was motivating for her at this point in the season.
As part of his Custom-Built Training Plan over this past Winter, Brian has been working on both his cadence and dialing in his ability to reign himself in to run strong in the second half of a run. On Sunday, Brian ran the most consistent splits he’s ever had in a 10K; his average pace was one second slower in the second half than it was in the first half. This well-executed run was strong enough to earn him second place in his age group!
Congratulations, Daria and Brian!
