Jennifer Pearce was the lone ranger when it came to racing this weekend, and what a race she had! Jennifer raced at the sprint distance of the Boulder Sunset Triathlon in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday, August 27, 2022!
Jennifer just had a GREAT race at the Toyota USA Triathlon Age-Group National Championship a few short weeks ago, and that race was her A-Race. As such, our expectations for the Boulder Sunset Triathlon were managed appropriately; this wasn’t her A-Race, and thus while we were sure that Jennifer would have a strong race, we weren’t expecting the same performance we might have if this was an A-Race.
The water temperature was PERFECT for Jennifer - 78ºF - which meant she chose not to wear a wetsuit. We’ve been working really hard on her swim stroke and strength this year, and she was able to put all of those gains and that knowledge to the test in this swim. She felt she had a strong, controlled swim. Then, on the bike, she pushed herself to keep her cadence up while simultaneously putting down some power. This meant that her legs were a bit tired for the run, but this meant that she had a very strong bike for her.
Once Jennifer hit the run, she put the cadence work we’ve been doing in her running to the test, and ran an excellent 5K off of the bike. She crossed the finish line in SECOND PLACE in her age group!
Jennifer’s race on Saturday is a shining example of how wonderful a race result can be if one puts in the work in training. Changing her swim stroke a bit and then focusing on cadence work on the bike and in her running wasn’t always fun for her, but the results were ultimately magical for her.
Congratulations, Jennifer!
