Athlete Race Recap: Lights on the Lake 5K

In what is becoming an annual tradition for her, Lisa ran the Lights on the Lake 5K in Liverpool, New York on Sunday, November 19, 2023!

This fun and festive 5K takes runners on a tour of the Wegmans Lights on the Lake drive-through holiday lights display in Onondaga Lake Park. Race start time is early so athletes can see the lights in the dark of the pre-dawn morning, and by the time they are finishing, they are treated to beautiful views of the sunrise!

Lisa really enjoys this race and always wears a festive running outfit for it. She was planning to run using her heart rate training zones, but noticed that her heart rate measuring device was inaccurate as she started the race. Because Lisa is a smart athlete, she has trained using many modalities and has a lot of tools in her Athlete’s Toolbelt as a result, so she easily switched to her backup strategy of racing using her Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE). She had a strong, fun race!
